The GZK has continued the very successful work of the former Goethe Institut Kathmandu, which closed down in 1997.
The GZK took over with the same objective, methods and system, supported by Goethe Institut Delhi (MMB). To ensure the quality of teaching, nearly all former teachers are still with us. Since June 1997, the GZK has been teaching German language to a vast number of Nepalese, as well as foreign citizens.
In fact, the numbers of students continued to rise every year since then.
It was only in 2001 that the GZK was given due recognition with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by both the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then His Majesty’s Government, now Government of Nepal. Ever since, the GZK is teaching the German language within the framework of the Cultural Cooperation agreed upon in 1982 by both Nepal and the Federal Republic of Germany.
